Yellowfang and Bluestar
Let me tell you right here: I will be talking quite a bit about Warrior cats. I mean, most of the time. I've read 24 books in the whole series- each which has thrown me into a roller coaster of emotion that would probably label me bipolar(I'm not, just to confirm). The Prophecies Begin Arc drew the most tears however because most of my favorite characters met their ends there. Lionheart, the brave warrior who would have made a great replacement as ThunderClan leader, Whitestorm the gentle senior warrior who was so wise(i think she should have been an elder in the New Prophecy Arc, seriously), Redtail, the deputy we barely knew, but, according to my fave, was a"brave, wise cat",old Graypool who was a big help in the series in my opinion, spilling such valuable information to us readers. Crookedstar, the old RiverClan leader who is one of the top best leaders in Clan history. So many others, but today, I will focus on two she-cats who will forever stand firmly not only in the minds for Clan cats, but in the hearts of fans alike: Yellowfang and Bluestar.
Never before in a series of books have I read that characters are explained for their behavior. Sure, in the Harry Potter series, Harry used the Pensieve to reveal some background stories and other dream of some sort or whatever, but the Warriors series are devoted to character development- and what better to develop a main character than write a 400-500+book about them?
Anyways, the two characters Yellowfang and Bluestar are both introduced(and die) in the The Prophecies Begin Arc and there alone they managed to mark me in significant ways.
Bluestar, the old, yet strong and level-headed leader of a weak ThunderClan shaped Fireheart into a perfect successor for her, as if she knew he would take over ThunderClan eventually. From the outside, Bluestar embodied self control and order, controlling, protecting her Clan for countless moons. She made wise decisions, faced off attacks, never backed down when insulted by other Clans- thought not maybe physically, but verbally, Bluestar made her warriors seem formidable. Yet, after all this grace and control and secrecy, Bluestar crumbles after her third deputy, the ever-ambitious Tigerclaw attempts to take away her ninth and final life. Now, even after we learn she gave up her kits to save her Clan, some of us are confused, even frustrated that she acts lost and bitter in her last moons. People call her mean and whiny, say she is no better than Brokenstar when she named Brightpaw Lostface. But yet, they don't understand, they dont know exactly when Bluestar acted as she did. And when she dies and Firestar takes over, many are like,'Finally, that old hag is gone'.Then the Erins do something in my opinion is extraodinary- write a Super Edition. There, Bluestar haters could get slammed in the face as now they know why Bluestar's last season went like they way it did. Her mother was murdered in a battle right before her eyes when she was a young apprentice. That's like a six year old watching his or her mom get attacked by a gang or something horrible. She went through a depression which left her with few friends. When she finally recovered, her sister falls in love with one of the most dangerous cats in the forest. And, just to squish her little apprentice self with the ultimate pressure, she is told she will blaze in the forest as ThunderClan's leader- than die in the river. That's nice, right? To know exactly how you're gonna die and there is no way to stop it. So she goes on in life the best way she can. Her sister is still seeing the dangerous tom(Thistleclaw) and they eventually have a son Whitekit. Then, as if StarClan thought having happiness was bad, Snowfur takes a walk with Bluestar(than Bluefur) and Snowfur is hit by a car. Bluefur blames herself and after a dream, devotes her life to caring for Whitekit in his mother's absence. After some time, Bluefur heals from her inner pain the best she could. Just when things could look up, she falls in a forbidden relationship with a warrior fromThunderclan's main enemy in the book- RiverClan. Her lover, Oakheart presuades her to meet him at Fourtrees- where she unknowingly expects his kits. Now hollow with grief, Bluefur makes a decision- to give her kits away to save her Clan from Thistleclaw. She does so and since then spent her life serving her Clan, despite the sorrow forever locked up in her. And, to make matters worst, many if the best warriors and her closest friends die, like Featherwhisker, Leopardfoot, Adderfang, her father Stormtail and many others. By Into the Wild, the elders den was over flowing and kits were'nt survivng. This only shows what grief and pain can do to someone- especially someone of Bluestar's status.
This was part one in the Yellowfang and bluestar article and I hope it was as fun to read as fun it was for me to write it. Please comment NICELY on this blog. Reviews are needed. Thank you.
